MARY JAY Obituary

Long-time resident and beloved Wife and Mother, Mary Kay Jay passed away January 14, 2023 at St Agnes Hospital in Fresno CA at the age of 83. Mary Kay Jay was born June 7, 1939 in Los Angeles, CA to Frank and Mary McCarty. She was Rodeo Queen while attending Orosi High School about 1956. She moved to Mariposa for her Junior year in 1957. She graduated Mariposa County High School in 1958. She met her husband and the love of her life, Gerald Jay in 1960. They were married February 11, 1961.

She was 2nd mom to all of her children’s friends and her vehicle was always full taking kids home after practices and sports games. She was a fixture at the Parks & Recreation Community Pool where she worked as Cashier and Lifeguard for many years. Many summer Saturdays were spent from 11 am to 11 pm working at the Pool and then at the Saturday night movie at the Outdoor Theater next door. She worked as a teacher’s aide in the Mariposa County School district and was often a chaperone on school field trips. She also worked for the California Mining & Mineral Exhibit and as a Secretary for Cal Farm Insurance. She was a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West for over 50 years. She was a past Member of the MCHS Boosters. She loved reading, watching sports games, and playing Bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank K. McCarty, Mary E. Beekman McCarty Clark, and stepfather John N. Clark; sisters: Alva Jean Kennedy, Charlotte Ann McCarty, and sister-in-law Fran Clark.

She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Gerald L. Jay; children: Jerry Jay (Cheryl), Wendy Miller (Dan), Wesley Jay (Theresa), and Steven Jay; brothers: Frank Clark, John Clark (Vicki), and Sister, Carolyn Loder (Dave); grandchildren: Gillian Wildey (Stephen), Melanie Jay, Lauren Jay, James Paige, Sabra Jay, Jarrod Jay; great grandchildren: Adalynn Jay, Oskar Wildey. And numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Mariposa. Location and details to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MCHS Boosters Club, P O Box 127, Mariposa CA 95338.
