Leota L. Tucker was born in Atchison, Kan. on July 23, 1923 to George William Neville and Lydia Louise Neville.
She was preceded in death by her husband and father of her three children, Frank Albert Edward Ledgard, in 1958; her second husband, Leo Tucker, who passed many years later; two brothers: Eugene Neville, who was killed in World War II on the USS Saratoga, and John O. (Slim) Neville in April of 2014, who was a resident of Mariposa County.
She is survived by her remaining brother, George Neville of Four Seasons, Mo.; her daughters Cathy Middlested of Mariposa, Calif., Sher Prince of Spring Valley, Calif., and Pat Lunsford of Baneberry, Tenn. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Carol Galley of Julian, Calif., two great-granddaughters of Poway and Santee, Calif., and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews and many friends.
For many years Leota enjoyed and excelled in ceramics. Her work and creations were second-to-none in that craft. In her early adult life she was active in Eastern Star in San Diego, Calif. Her career was working in a civilian capacity for the federal government in the Navy in San Diego.
After retiring, she moved to Mariposa where she enjoyed square dancing, crocheting and knitting and fishing/camping with Leo. She belonged to the First Baptist Church of Mariposa and her passion and service to the Lord was working with the missions with her church.
Leota was a strong, independent woman who lived a hard life and strictly on her terms. She battled diabetes for years, was a breast cancer survivor, and rarely took advice from anyone, including family or doctors. She was always particular on how she wanted things done or to be, and always thought her way was the best. As stubborn and bossy as she could be, she had a kind heart and developed a sensitivity and a more loving nature about her in later life. She loved her family and church family tremendously and we will remember her with laughter and fond memories of our time with her on this earth.
Leota made her transition from this earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9, 2019.
Her memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Mariposa, located at 5005 Frank Wilson Road, reception following. She will be laid to rest in San Diego at the Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in Leota’s name to Bristol Hospice in Merced, Calif.
